Bangladesh Digital Security Act - a dangerous tool created to oppress people
Admin | 14 March, 2021
Historically different Bangladeshi government has created and used different laws and acts against people to oppress them. It all started since the drawn of this country. Sheikh Hasina's brain child Digital Security Act is just an upgrade of those tools. It works exactly same way, rather more dangeraously. It is used only to oppress people and tackle opposition. General public, bloggers, writers, journalists, civil society and even in some cases lots of international human rights organisations has complained against this act. But this culprit illegal government never cared about these objections rather, went ahead with full throttle.
There had been many cases where writers, journalists, bloggers were arrested to express their opinions online by the government. It has gone so bad now, that its now even used by local politicians as well to oppress general public and any opposition. Its fully politically motivated to use it as government like to arrest people who does not agree with them. Previously it was used like for the same purpose, but this upgraded version is now weaponized and mordernized to use it against anyone who are even outside the country or fled the country with fear. Government now can arrest them and consider their freedom of expression as crime, even that was published whilst they were outside of the country.
There is now many incidents when people are arrested and murdered in police custody. Government has become so shameless that they not only denies the responsibilities for these deaths, but also lazy even to setup enqueries to investgate these deaths. Because they are fully aware, at some point, if properly investigated they will be held liable for all these killings of innocent writers, journalists and bloggers. Now the government controls how you feel, what you say, what you do; everything. You are nothing but a prisoner in a prison called 'Bangladesh'.
Now not only local bloggers or journalists are trying to fight against it, international human rights organisations are also raising their concern against it. Because this is nothing but a weapon to kill innocent people just for expressing their opinion. Local Bangladeshi journalists and bloggers are getting arrested and killed; and I fully understand how they are struggling to deal with this publicly. Not only them, their other family members witll also be arrested and harrassed. It is every one of our duty to raise our voice against this and make sure that this is hard by everyone. International community must boycott this and any other government who will use this act to oppress innocent people. This governemnt must stop this digital security act now. If they are really concern about digital security, they can always follow other developed countries laws and consult with writers, journalists, bloggers, civil society representative, international human rights organisations and get a well accepted act which will really help everyone.
